The Love of Money(Kindle Edition)
LBK's debut novel is a gripping, sometimes harrowing tale set against a rarely explored historical backdrop - the founding of what was to become New York City. She steers her characters unflinchingly through a world that is raw, passionate and definitely not for the squeamish.

Set in the early days of settlement on Manhatten in the New World, this story crosses the Atlantic several times as trade and tribulations take the characters to and fro. It is hard to imagine the discomfort of the sea crossing and the rudimentary nature of the new settlements but this book gives a good flavour of both. Fortunes change and people aren't all that they first appear to be. Love, hate, revenge and forgiveness are all part of the journey this story takes the reader on. There is plenty of intrigue and the scene is set for a sequel..... looking forward to it!

I loved this book. It’s a very compelling story and I couldn’t put it down. Good job I read it on holiday! The author has obviously extensive and fascinating knowledge about the period. Set in the17th Century, the characters and their lives go back and forth from the Netherlands to Manhattan when it was in the early days of settlement. She manages to set the scene perfectly without being overly wordy, so the story moves at just the right pace. I really got a good sense of what life could have been like during this time and have a greater appreciation of how life has (and hasn’t) changed. Like other great books, coming to the end was a mixed blessing. I look forward to the sequels and seeing it come to life on the screen!

An absolutely gripping read. Set in 17th century Manhattan, this tells the story of Trading in the new world, pirates and murder bound together with strong and dark characters that keep you reading until late into the night! You can almost feel and taste the tension and the characters are brought to life with a deft and clever touch. I can imagine a film arising out of such a strong and historic story. A must read.

A fantastic, enthralling and beautifully researched tome. Simon B

The Love of Money (Kindle Edition)
Meticulously researched but not over burdened with the weight of its historical content Manhattan Legacy delves unflinchingly into a period of history seldom touched upon in fiction. A teeming canvas of characters murder, rape, corrupt, enslave and some are redeemed as each turns to the New World in search of his own Elysium. Told in supple prose by turns lyrical and often visceral Lesley Broster Kinch's story is staggering in its scope and ambition.

Strong plot and characters. It really rocks along.I was particularly taken by the attention to detail about an age about which I know very little.I heartily recommend this book.

A comment from Robert L Bacon, US Editor and publisher of the blog “The Perfect Write”.

On the flip side of what I just wrote, Lesley Broster Kinch, a delightful young lady whose material I've critiqued, and who lives in the U.K., has told me that Nicholas Evans has agreed to write a review of her debut novel, The Love of Money. Folks, this ain't Kirkus from the perspective of a review's value to a writer, as Mr. Evans is on the list of the 100 top-selling authors of all time, and his most acclaimed story, THE HORSE WHISPERER, went to the top of the charts as both a book and a movie. The review is not "in" yet, but Mr. Evans must have found something good about Ms. Kinch's book or he never would have agreed to look at it, and if he graces her story with good marks, she'll have writer's cramp from attending so many book signings.
